Our final full day at Workshop Holzbau and the progress of the staircase is moving quickly. It is a beautiful, sunny day and we are working beneath the canopy of the trees on site, surely one of the best building sites!
I am working with Harald putting up the internal supports for the balustrade on frame 1. Julie and Unn Vilde are working on the opposite side of the stair, doing the same thing. It is lunch time now and we have both finished, it's looking fantastic and feeling very sturdy. The form of the wave is starting to emerge, and I think it looks even better than any of the models or drawings we have done.
Tomorrow Sally, Suner and I are heading home. Lee is staying on as an ambassador for UWE! I will be disappointed to leave without experiencing the finished product myself, but I am glad to have been apart of the process. I feel I have learned a lot about working through details and structural problems, and about how a good design and make workshop is run. I feel inspired to try and emulate such a feat!
